Bumper Racing weekend hits into Top Gear!

Petrol heads like myself will be rather spoilt for choice this coming weekend as we prepare for one jam packed weekend of Motorsport and Events. Whether you’re a South African citizen or a gear-head from abroad, you best get your diary out and plan accordingly, because this one is going to be crazy!

Kicking us off will be the long awaited and much anticipated Top Gear Festival in Durban on Saturday and Sunday. The Top Gear boys have returned fro UK to give us yet another installment of their phemomenal festival that’s taken the world by storm. The event will be taking place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, which will include fast cars, crazy stunts and everything in between that you would expect from Top Gear. Joining them will also be the Durban leg of the Wesbank Super Series Nationals, which will be a street race in the city. Be sure to check out the link on The Gear Shift home page.

Top Gear Fest hits up Durban this year…2 days and counting until it’s showtime!

The Le Mans 24 hr endurance race will be taking place at the Circuit de la Sarthe race track in Le Mans, France, on Saturday afternoon into Sunday afternoon and promises to be just as entertaining and draining as all the years gone by. Apart from Formula 1, Endurance racing, particularly 24hrs of Le Mans has much prestige and honour, so this is definitely one not to miss.

Team Toyota, a strong force in Le Mans, will feature in this year’s race.

Adding to the Le Mans hype, Car Magazine and Liqui Moly will once again be hosting their annual virtual Le Mans Challenge. Using Gran Turismo 5 as the game and PS3 as the platform, the South Africa’s finest GT5 contenders a pitted against one another for the ultimate prize, a full expenses paid trip to a Formula 1 Grand Prix! The Virtual Le Mans challenge will be hosted at Canal Walk shopping centre in Cape Town and will run congruently with the actual Le Mans race. Start time is 3pm Sat until 3pm Sunday.

The Car Mag/Liqui Moly Virtual Le Mans challenge…a true test of endurance and will power.

Finally, for those that aren’t heading up to Durbs for the Top Gear Fest and Wesbank Super Series, Killarney Raceway in Cape Town will be hosting another leg of MSA Drags as well as Street 2 Strip Open drags on Saturday. Sunday will also feature an open track day for those that want to feed some speed to their rides…i’ll be attending that with The Gear Shift GTI Challenge Golf to put in some practise laps.

So, that’s the wrap for the weekend…be sure to plan it wisely, because there will be plenty to pay attention to! Enjoy the weekend’s racing peeps 🙂

Peace.
